The phenomenon of community gardens goes back to the communist era. Today they are partly abandoned and vandalised. My intention was to show that the community gardens still play an important role in the lives of the older generation left behind by the Transformation. Those timeless paradises reflect Polish culture and DIY creativity of their owners. Many gardeners who I interviewed stated that gardening gives their lives a sense of purpose and belonging.
